Flash flooding is synonymous with summer in Nevada, that’s why the County Commission has declared June Flash Flood Awareness Month. During a flash flood, water falls so fast that storm drains are not able to collect it all. If culverts get clogged with leaves or debris, water can start to rise to the point where it flows over those culverts and into the roadway. Operations Division Director for Washoe County Eric Crump, says, “We have so many unnecessary tragic injuries and even deaths due to flooding,,, it’s very simple to avoid them: move to high ground and do not enter flooded areas.”
