Hearings on Laxalt Gaming Board Controversy Set For Wednesday

Chairs Maggie Carlton and Joyce Woodhouse are announcing a joint Assembly Ways and Means and Senate Finance committee hearing on AB-513. That’s the bill that would allow the Gaming Control Board to hire it’s own legal council, separate from the state Attorney General’s Office. The statement they released reads in part: “Attorney General Adam Laxalt’s attempt to pressure the Nevada Gaming Control Board to interfere in a private civil lawsuit involving a gaming licensee, with whom he has longstanding connections, is unsettling. Records obtained by legislative subpoena suggest that the Attorney General has created a conflict of interest, and that he should not continue to serve as counsel to the Gaming Control Board.”  The bill will be heard 6pm Wednesday, and they say they’re hopeful that both the Chairman of the Gaming Control Board and Attorney General Laxalt will be able to attend to ensure that we have a complete understanding of the situation as we attempt to resolve it.
