Several Blazes Keeping Firefighters Busy in Northern Nevada

As of Wednesday Night,  the Slinkard Fire, in the Slinkard Valley, west of Topaz in Mono County, California, continues to grow, it’s over 3,000 acres with zero containment .Topaz has been evacuated north of Highway 89 to the Nevada state line. An evacuation center has been set up at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center.

 

Crews are fighting the Needle 2 Fire southwest of Pyramid Lake, along Pyramid Highway north of Spanish Springs. Sierra Front says the Needle 2 fire has burned about 954 acres. There are no reported road restrictions in the area. It started around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. No homes are threatened and the closest structure is the Pyramid Lake store. Needle 2 is now 60% contained.

A fire north of Pyramid Lake has burned an estimated 7,000 acres since it was reported about 730 last night. Sierra Front is calling it the Tohakum 2 Fire. The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe says the fire could have an impact on traffic heading to Burning Man. No word yet on the cause of the Tohakum 2 Fire.

 

The Bird Springs  fire is now 50% contained at 91 acres, that’s the fire burning off Bedell Road in North Reno.
