Clark County Student Shot to Death on Campus

It was not a random shooting that took the life of an 18 year old student at Canyon Springs High School in North Las Vegas. Police say the gunfire followed an altercation between the shooter and the student who was killed. The shooting happened near a baseball field just after the school day ended, while there were still several hundred students on campus. Information about the suspect has not been released. Washoe County School Board President Katy Simon Holland and Superintendent Traci Davis issued a joint statement expressing support for students and staff at the school, and say schools should be safe havens where students co-exist peacefully. There have been seven gun related incidents in Clark County Schools this year.
