Lyon is the fastest growing county in Nevada and one of the fastest growing in the nation, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures. The county that stretches from Fernley in the north to the California border at its south end grew by 3.5 percent from 2017 to 2018. Washoe County grew by 1.8 percent in 2018 and Clark County grew by 2.2 percent. Nationally, there are 989 counties with a population of 50,000 or more. Lyon County’s growth was 21st fastest of that group. For some years in the 2000s, Lyon County’s annual population growth was among the 10 fastest in the nation.
