Suspect Jumps Into The Truckee River to Avoid Law Enforcement

A man running from authorities tried to escape Sunday by jumping into the Truckee River. Rescue crews had to pull him from the water after he lost consciousness. His condition has not been released, but Reno Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Pilcher says the man was not breathing as he was being transported to the hospital. The incident began around 11:30 a.m. as the larceny suspect fled from the Walmart on East Second Street. The battalion chief credited tribal police with doing a good job of keeping an eye on the man after he jumped into the water. When he passed underneath the Greg Street bridge, about 20 minutes after getting into the water, he was submerged. Sparks Fire Department rescue team members joined RFD water rescue members to pull the man out at Rock Park about eight minutes later.
