Sparks New Public Safety Leaders in Place

The Sparks City Council has its public safety leadership in place. The council named a 22-year department vet Jim Reid to be its new fire chief. Reid was sworn in Monday to replace Chris Maples, who retired. Council had already named a replacement for Police Chief Brian Allen, who also retired. Allen will be replaced by Pete Krall, effective Tuesday. Allen had been chief since 2013, and has been with the department 28 years. Krall is Deputy Chief and has been with the department 20 years. His experience includes stints with SWAT, K9, dispatch, patrol and the gang unit, as well as a mental health outreach team.
