Two People Arrested After Shooting Friday on Tribal Land

A man and a teenage boy have been arrested for several charges stemming from an incident Friday night. About 9:45 p.m. July 5th, deputies were helping the Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Department find people accused of a battery at the Red Mountain Travel Center. Humboldt county Sheriff’s Office says the suspect vehicle and three suspects were in a field on the reservation. The suspects, who were armed with two rifles, fired at officers. At that point, a Humboldt deputy returned fire, leading the suspects to run off. During the search that followed, 25-year-old Ian Hinkey was arrested, as was a 17-year-old boy. Hinkey is being held without bail on Federal/Tribal charges in the Humboldt County Detention Center. The teen was booked into Humboldt County Juvenile Detention Center.
