(RENO, N.V.) -- The Rock-N-River Marathon, which has been running since 2009, will not be held this year due to lack of staff and funding.
The running events began in 2008, and expanded to four distances including the marathon by 2012. It was on its way to becoming somewhat of a tradition, and a well-liked one at that. The Rock-N-River was named one of the nation’s top 13 events to attend in the spring by Active.com two years ago.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the race’s success may have been its undoing.
“The race was staffed with volunteers only and with how big it had gotten, we needed a full-time race crew,” Catherine McFeely, race production manager for Castlerock Multisports and producer of the Rock-N-River events told The Reno Gazette-Journal. Rock-N-River was unable to obtain a crew and funding for 2013.
McFeely is hopeful that the Rock-N-River Marathon will be back in 2014. Start training now.
