The San Antonio Express-News reported that the Ross Fire began Aug. 24 and has spread across Palo Pinto and Jack counties, about 80 miles west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Texas A&M Forest Service officials said the fire was linked to human activity involving equipment or vehicle use near a roadside, although investigators have not identified the exact ignition source.

The fire developed during extreme weather, with temperatures reaching 109 degrees, humidity dropping to 16%, and wind gusts reaching about 25 mph.

By Thursday morning, the fire was 38% contained. No deaths or injuries had been reported, but 167 structures were destroyed, including 18 homes. Firefighters also saved more than 450 structures.

Elevated wildfire danger remains across parts of Texas as high temperatures, dry air, and breezy conditions continue. Officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and keep vehicles away from dry vegetation.

Police were called to a high-rise near 15 East Grant Street shortly after 4:30 p.m., CBS Minnesota reported. Officers entered the building after reports of gunfire and encountered a haze or airborne substance that reduced visibility. Authorities said several additional officers experienced effects from the substance during the response.

The suspected gunman was later found dead from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials said the suspect had been evicted from the building earlier that day. Court records also showed previous allegations involving threats with firearms.

Local, state and federal agencies responded to the scene, while the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension joined the investigation.

Authorities had not announced a confirmed motive. The three injured officers were expected to recover as investigators continued reviewing what led to the shooting.

The Associated Press said the latest developments included Iranian missile and drone activity aimed at countries that host or support U.S. forces. Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait were among the states reporting defensive action as regional governments monitored the widening security threat.

The escalation followed U.S. strikes against Iranian military infrastructure. Washington has warned that further attacks on American forces or regional partners could bring additional military responses.

Beyond the immediate security concerns, the conflict is also affecting energy markets. Oil prices have moved higher as traders watch conditions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes for crude oil and other energy supplies.

The renewed fighting adds uncertainty for governments, military forces and commercial shipping across the region, while attention remains focused on whether the confrontation will continue to expand.

The proposal would create a faster claims process for victims and place limits on hedge funds seeking to profit from certain wildfire claims. It would also restrict executive bonuses when utility equipment causes a fire that damages or destroys more than 500 buildings.

Another issue is the Federal Reserve’s dollar swap lines with foreign central banks. These facilities provide access to dollars during periods of financial stress and have played an important role in stabilizing markets.

For now, there is no confirmed change to those arrangements. The broader concern is whether political tensions could make financial coordination between the United States and Europe more difficult.

Under the arrangement described by Trump, private companies are expected to play a major role in developing Venezuela’s oil sector. Reuters said the agreement could involve tens of billions of barrels of reserves, although key details about ownership, legal structure and implementation remain unclear.

Venezuela has some of the world’s largest proven crude oil reserves, but years of underinvestment, sanctions and aging infrastructure have limited production. Any effort to significantly increase output would likely require substantial capital and time.

Iran will be another major topic. U.S. officials plan to encourage participating countries to reduce remaining economic ties with Tehran and follow existing U.S. sanctions. The issue may also come up during bilateral meetings between finance officials.

The talks arrive as governments continue to manage slower economic growth, higher borrowing costs and pressure on public finances. G20 members are also expected to discuss ways to strengthen private investment and improve economic resilience while navigating ongoing trade tensions and geopolitical disputes.

CBS News reported that the agreement calls for Meta to pay at least $12.1 billion over 10 years, with the total potentially rising depending on future settlements involving other social media companies. Combined with a separate agreement involving Texas, Meta’s overall payments could reach about $18 billion.

The settlement also includes new safeguards for minors. These measures include daily time limits for teens, restrictions on nighttime use, muted notifications during school hours, stronger age verification, expanded parental controls, and limits on features associated with social comparison.

The states had accused Meta of designing features that encouraged compulsive use and of failing to adequately disclose potential risks to younger users. The case also included claims involving data collected from children under 13.

Meta has denied the allegations. The agreement resolves the multistate case while introducing additional requirements focused on youth safety and platform use.

Evacuation restrictions were lifted in some areas as conditions improved, but about 23,000 people were still under immediate evacuation orders and another 40,000 were told to remain prepared to leave. Reuters reported that more than 900 firefighters were assigned to the response, including personnel from 15 U.S. states, Australia and New Zealand.

The fire has burned more than 15,000 acres since starting Saturday and was 27% contained by Monday. At least 32 homes were destroyed and several others damaged, according to fire officials.

Four civilians and three emergency personnel suffered minor burns during the early stages of the fire. No deaths have been reported.

Investigators have determined that the Hawk Fire was caused by human activity, though authorities have not established whether it was started accidentally or intentionally.

Iran responded with a direct warning. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said countries that participate in or support the U.S. economic campaign could be treated as taking part in an act of war. He also threatened to stop oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz and elsewhere in the Persian Gulf if the pressure continues.

The sanctions are expected to focus on Iranian oil sales, banking channels, transportation networks and foreign trading partners.

Tensions around Hormuz remain especially significant because roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies move through the waterway. Iran has recently allowed some Iraqi oil tankers to transit the strait, while oil prices fell Monday as markets awaited Washington’s announcement.
