The March 10th shooting of a man in Lemmon Valley has been ruled justified. 22-year-old Arteair Porter was described by his family as schizophrenic and the report by the district attorney’s office listed several run ins he had previously with law enforcement, several of them resulting in his committal to the state mental health hospital. Porter originally called 911 to report he was suicidal because his daughter had died and his wife was pregnant with another child. The investigation showed he had no daughter or wife. Porter told dispatchers at one point he had a rifle and later said he had a shotgun. It turned out to be a Daisy BB gun. When police arrived he pleaded several times for authorities to shoot him before he began to point his weapon towards officers on scene.
