The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office joined the Reno Police, Sparks Police and Nevada Highway Patrol for a high-intensity traffic enforcement campaign in early September focusing on DUIs. Deputies participating in this campaign made five DUI arrests along with several other arrests on drug charges and outstanding warrants. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving. From September 1 through September 15th, Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated 256 traffic stops. Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, several other violations may be observed during the subsequent investigation making it possible that a driver may be issued citations for numerous violations. The total number of arrests, citations and warnings resulting from this event is 316. 122 of them were speeding violations.
