Fire crews stopped forward progress of a 5 acre brush fire in Yerington that started as an agricultural burn on private property Monday afternoon. County Manager Jeff Page says the Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Protection District was called shortly before 4:00 to the River Split Ranch on State Route 208. Firefighters found a fire burning in heavy brush and grass. The fire put off a large column of smoke that could be seen throughout Mason Valley. There were no reports of injuries and no structures were threatened.
