DOE Shipped “Unstable” and “Mismarked” Nuke Waste to Nevada

Governor Steve Sisolak is demanding answers after his office was informed by the Department of Energy, that they shipped unauthorized radioactive waste, that may be unstable, to the Nevada National Security Site from Tennessee. The waste transfer violates the NNSS Waste Acceptance Criteria, which establishes the protocols for what type of waste is suitable for disposal at the Site. The DOE says the mismarked material could have a violent reaction when combined with other materials, and may be unstable during normal conditions. The Governor says he’ll do everything he can to protect the health of Nevadans. Nevada congressman Steven Horsford is calling for Energy Secretary Rick Perry’s resignation. All nuclear shipments to Nevada have been stopped according to the Department of Energy.
