Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Pershing County

A man is dead after stabbing a police dog and resisting arrest last night. Pershing County Deputies were responding to a motorist assist call and ran a routine check on him and found he had a felony warrant from New Mexico. Deputies say the man resisted arrest and deputies attempted to use a taser but were unsuccessful. He then reentered his motor home and drove off striking a sheriff’s vehicle, forcing it off the road. After a short chase, the driver stopped but refused to exit so the K-9 was deployed and the man began stabbing the dog in the neck with a large knife. A deputy then fired at the driver striking him in the upper torso. He died from the wound at Pershing General Hospital. No word on the condition of the dog. The Nevada Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
