The Special Legislative Session Begins Today in Carson City

The special legislative session starts Wednesday, Gov. Steve Sisolak says difficult decisions now lay ahead. He says his proposal preserves as much funding as possible for essential priorities: health, education and the state workforce. His proposal to close the gap does not include new taxes. The plan does call for Over $500 million in reductions to agency budgets, reductions in one-time appropriations, transfers from other funds to the State’s general fund, furlough days for state employees, and holding open more than 690 state employee vacancies. While the Governor has proposed no new taxes, he’s indicated a willingness to expand some taxes already in place, if that’s what the legislature decides.
