Suspect Killed After Standoff on SR-278

The suspect in an long standoff on SR-278 is dead, after shooting it out with NHP Troopers and Eureka County deputies. Law enforcement responded to the call that an NDOT road worker had been shot late Wednesday morning. A white Ram cargo van traveling south on SR-278 on the dirt shoulder at a high rate of speed, and after NHP trooper helped the wounded worker Troopers and deputies from Eureka County Sheriff’s Office then stopped the van with spike strips. The suspect got out of his vehicle and started shooting at law enforcement, they returned fire. The suspect was found near the van with a gunshot wound. He later died. The worker is currently stable and recovering at the hospital.
