Reno Police were involved in a chase last night that ended in a crash at 9th & Virginia Streets. The chase started after Damian Silvanus, the suspect, hit a utility pole with a U-haul truck in the area of Robb Drive and Sapphire Way. Silvanus left the scene of the crash armed with a large machete and attempted to steal another vehicle. The first victim he approached fled into her home after refusing to give him her vehicle. So, Silvanus returned to the scene of the crash where a good samaritan had stopped to assist. Silvanus stole that person’s idling vehicle. The pursuit around the west side of Reno at one point had the suspect driving the wrong-way on I-80. Silvanus then left the freeway and attempted to flee on foot into a local business. That’s where police deployed the taser, and arrested him. He faces a variety of charges.
