WCSO Warning Public of DMV Text Message Scam

(Reno, NV) — The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of yet another text message scam. These texts are coming from an international number. But, whoever is sending them is claiming to be with the Nevada DMV. The scam texts say “final notice.” They falsely threaten to take action if payment for a traffic ticket isn’t sent, saying payments must be completed by today, June 9th. The message then threatens action regarding a vehicle registration suspension, the revocation of driving privileges or potential credit score damages if people don’t pay up. The real Nevada DMV says it would never send a text message from an international number.
