(Tuscarora, NV) — The Cottonwood Peak Fire in Elko County has burned 28-thousand acres of land and is ten percent contained. The fire is burning in Tuscarora, about 55 miles northwest of Elko. It started on Friday and burned more than 15-thousand acres in an eight-hour period. So far, it has only burned brush and grass. The Bureau of Land Management believes it was started by lightning and fanned by high winds. Officials say the fire is “exhibiting extreme behavior.”
