(Reno, NV.) — The City of Reno is hosting a Boards and Commissions Training on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Reno City Hall Council Chambers. This training is designed to help all board and commission members understand the new structure of these groups, learn about the resources available to support their work, and help standardize how boards operate overall.
At the August 13, 2025 Reno City Council meeting, Council approved a new plan to update how the City manages its boards and commissions. The changes removed some boards and commissions from the Reno Municipal Code, combined them under one new resolution, and shifted oversight to the City Manager’s Office to create more consistency.
Agenda Manager Tyler Shaw says it will be a great time for residents to learn more about the boards and commissions.
This two-hour training will cover both general board member responsibilities and Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB)-specific functions:
-
Hour 1 – All Board and Commission Members: Nevada Open Meeting Law, Public Records, Roberts Rules of Order, overview of the new resolution, and introduction of the Board Secretary role.
-
Hour 2 – NAB Members Focus: Training on NAB responsibilities, how feedback is incorporated into development review, and a hands-on exercise with a sample project in coordination with the Development Services team.
The training will take place in-person, with a virtual meeting option available through Zoom. A recording will also be available to view afterward.
In addition to boards and commission member attendance, members of the public are welcome to join as well. This is a great opportunity to learn about the City’s boards for individuals who might be interested in joining a board or commission in the future.
