Victor Escobar (Washoe County District Attorney's Office)
From the Washoe County DA’s office:
A jury has found Victor Armando Escobar guilty of Driving Under the Influence with a Prior Felony and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Escobar was arrested after Reno Police responded to reports of an impaired driver near Ormand Court and Giroux Street. A witness found Escobar asleep behind the wheel of a car blocking an exit, and after waking him, noticed clear signs of impairment. When Escobar drove off, swerving into oncoming lanes, the witness called police.
Officers later found Escobar still asleep in the driver’s seat. As he got out of his car, a bag of methamphetamine fell to the ground. Escobar admitted to using the drug earlier that day, and a blood test confirmed methamphetamine in his system.
“Escobar’s repeated DUIs make him a clear and ongoing threat to the safety of every driver and family in Washoe County. His pattern of reckless behavior warrants nothing less than the maximum sentence,” said District Attorney Chris Hicks.
This marks Escobar’s fourth felony DUI and fifth lifetime DUI. Deputy District Attorney Widad Sairafe prosecuted the case and will pursue a habitual enhancement at sentencing, where Escobar faces up to 25 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for October 21 before Judge Barry Breslow.
