A jury has convicted 41-year-old Javier Castellanos-Bacilio of three counts of Lewdness with a Child Under the Age of 14, and one count of Sexual Assault Against a Child Under 14 Years.
The victim, a 13-year-old girl, disclosed to a school counselor back in September of 2023, that the defendant sexually abused her once during her previous school year, and three times over a recent weekend. Deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report, thoroughly investigated the case, and ultimately arrested Castellanos-Bacilio.
Deputy District Attorney Kristina Rhoades prosecuted the case, which included the victim sharing her testimony with WCDA facility dog Kace at her side. During trial, DDA Rhoades emphasized the victim’s credibility and the corroborating evidence in the case.
“This conviction marks an important step toward justice for a courageous young survivor,” said DA Chris Hicks. “We commend her strength in coming forward and the thorough work of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The presence of facility dog Kace highlights the care taken to support the victim through a difficult process. As sentencing approaches, our thoughts remain with the survivor, and we reaffirm our commitment to protecting children and holding offenders fully accountable.
Sentencing is set for December 2, 2025, before the Honorable Kathleen Drakulich. Castellanos-Bacilio faces up to four consecutive life sentences with a maximum parole eligibility after 65 years.
