(Las Vegas, NV) — The top federal prosecutor in Nevada is now stripped of her ability to take part in cases. U.S. District Court Judge David Campbell says Sigal Chattah “is not validly serving as Acting U.S. Attorney.” It’s a major rebuke to the Trump administration. President Donald Trump put her in the role on an interim basis and then on an acting basis. Both moves avoided a standard Senate confirmation hearing. Tuesday’s ruling says Chattah cannot take part in any cases. The matter was brought before the federal judge by defense lawyers who argued the prosecutor was not properly installed. Judge Campbell is a George W. Bush appointee in Arizona. He received the case after Nevada judges recused themselves.
