Here’s what’s trending in Friday sports:
- Nevada volleyball fell to UNLV yesterday in four sets. Haylee Brown led the Pack in kills with 12, as Audrey Jensen had a season high 32 assists. Nevada will be back on its home court on Saturday, hosting San Diego State at 12 PM.
- Former Nevada men’s assistant coach Kyle Guy is coming out of retirement, signing with the Indiana Pacers. Guy will report to the Noblesville Boom, the Pacers’ G-League team. Guy’s departure allowed Jarod Lucas to take his spot on the coaching staff.
- Coming off their bye week, the Nevada football team will head to Fresno State tomorrow to take on the 4-1 Bulldogs. Fresno State has won four straight games after a season-opening loss to Kansas. Nevada is 1-3 with a two-game losing streak. Kickoff tomorrow is set for 7:30 p.m.
- The San Francisco 49ers made a stop on fourth down and held off the Los Angeles Rams 26-23 in overtime on Thursday Night Football. Mac Jones completed 33-of-49 pass attempts for 342 yards and two touchdowns while filling in for injured starter Brock Purdy. Kendrick Bourne had 10 receptions for 142 yards while Christian McCaffrey totaled 139 all-purpose yards and a receiving TD. Eddy Pineiro kicked the game-winning 41-yard field goal in OT to help the Niners improve to 4-and-1. Matthew Stafford was 30-of-47 for 389 yards and three touchdowns in the losing effort. Puka Nacua finished with 10 catches for 85 yards and a score as the Rams fell to 3-and-2.
- The field for the American League and National League Division Series is set. Yankees rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler struck out a dozen batters through eight scoreless frames to lead New York to a 4-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox in Game Three in the Bronx. The Yankees will now face the Toronto Blue Jays in the next round. Elsewhere in the AL, the Detroit Tigers used a four-run seventh inning to take down the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 to advance. The Tigers will now face the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS. In the NL, Michael Busch and Pete Crow-Armstrong combined for six hits and two RBIs while leading the Chicago Cubs to a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres in the Windy City. Chicago will play the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS. The Division Series begins Saturday.
