Here’s what’s trending in Thursday sports:
Reno Pro Soccer
A private news conference will be held today to unveil plans for a 6,000 seat soccer stadium in Reno. The stadium will reportedly go along Kietzke Lane at the site of the former Jones West Ford building. USL has given Reno Pro Soccer owning rights to operate a club starting in 2027.
NBA
The Kings are locking up a member of their starting lineup with a long-term deal. Sacramento is signing forward Keegan Murray to a five-year, 140-million-dollar rookie contract extension. The Kings selected Murray with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and he is now signed with the team through the 2030-31 season. The 25-year-old is one of three players to record 500 three-pointers, 150 blocks and 150 steals over the past three seasons. Murray averaged 12.4 points and 6.7 rebounds in 76 games played last season. He will be sidelined to start the new season after undergoing surgery on his thumb earlier this week. In other news, the Kings are signing nine-time All-Star guard Russell Westbrook to a one-year, 3.6-million-dollar veteran’s minimum deal.
NHL
Vegas Golden Knights return home tonight to host the Boston Bruins. The Knights are 2-0-2 while the Bruins are 3-1-0.
NFL
The 49ers are continuing to prepare for another primetime matchup. San Francisco will host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football at Levi’s Stadium. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and right guard Dominick Puni were among a large group of players that did not participate in yesterday’s practice. Quarterback Brocky Purdy was limited in his return to practice. Fellow QB Mac Jones and tight end George Kittle were also limited during the session. The Niners have lost two of their last three games but remain atop the NFC West at 4-and-2.
The Raiders are hitting the road for an AFC West contest in Week Seven. Las Vegas will visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday morning at Arrowhead Stadium. Tight end Brock Bowers, running back Dylan Laube and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers did not participate in yesterday’s practice. The Raiders remain last in the division at 2-and-4.
Week seven kicks off tonight with an AFC North showdown between the Steelers and Bengals.
MLB
The Blue Jays collected their first win of the ALCS after blowing out the Mariners 13-4 in Game Three from Seattle. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went four for four with a solo homer as five members of the Blue Jays went deep. George Kirby was saddled with the loss after allowing eight runs over four frames. Seattle now leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 and hopes to bounce back in Game Four on Thursday.
Game three of the NLCS is tonight with the Dodgers leading the Brewers, 2-0.
