(Reno, NV) — University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval is reporting an increase in student enrollment over the last year. The President said during Monday’s “State of the University” address that enrollment is at 20,061 students, which is up 8.9 percent.
Sandoval also said the university is gaining recognition on a national level.
He also mentioned that UNR will submit a formal application for Federal Recognition as a Hispanic Serving Institution, as the university’s Hispanic student population has surpassed 25 percent.
Sandoval did mention that future funding could be a challenge. He cited that faculty and staff received a 23 percent cost of living adjustment, but that was only 60 percent funded. He’s hopeful that funding will increase by 2027.
Sandoval also acknowledged the Nevada baseball and softball teams, both of which won Mountain West Conference championships this past spring.
