LOCAL FOOTBALL
A great moment for one Reno High freshman. Zachary King, the team’s student manager who has special needs, got into the game yesterday against North Valleys and scored a touchdown. King also served as the team’s honorary fifth captain for the game.
NBA
Matas Buzelis dropped in 27 points to lead the Bulls past the Kings 126-113 in Chicago. Josh Giddey posted 20 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds for the Bulls, who improved to 4-and-0 on the season. Kevin Huerter added 18 points off the bench in the victory. Former Bull Zach LaVine poured in a game-high 30 points for Sacramento, which slipped to 1-and-4. DeMar DeRozan, who also previously played for Chicago, had 19 points against his former team in the setback.
NFL
The 49ers are continuing to prepare for their Week Nine matchup. San Francisco will visit the New York Giants on Sunday morning at MetLife Stadium. Center Jake Brendel, defensive end Bryce Huff and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall were among nine players that did not participate in yesterday’s practice. Quarterback Brock Purdy was among five that were limited during the session. In other news, the team has signed defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell to the practice squad and waived offensive lineman Drew Moss. The Niners are third in the NFC West at 5-and-3.
The Raiders are at home for an AFC battle this week. Las Vegas hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium. The team has designated quarterback Aidan O’Connell to return to practice from injured reserve and he was a full participant in yesterday’s practice along with tight end Brock Bowers. Defensive tackle Adam Butler and defensive end Maxx Crosby did not participate in the session. The Raiders are at the bottom of the AFC West at 2-and-5.
MLB
The Blue Jays are one win away from a World Series championship. The team silenced the Dodgers 6-1 in Game Five from Los Angeles. Rookie Trey Yesavage spun another gem after allowing the lone run while mowing down a dozen batters over seven innings. Toronto leads the best-of-seven series 3-2. Blake Snell got the loss for LA, which hopes to stave-off elimination north of the border on Friday.
