(Washoe County, NV) — Victims of sex trafficking have a new place to seek refuge in Northern Nevada.
On Wednesday, representatives with Courage Worldwide cut the ribbon a brand new “Courage House,” a long-term residence aimed at providing trauma-informed care for young victims of sex trafficking, exploitation or abuse. These programs offer holistic approaches to healing, including equine therapy, education, life skills training, and a safe living environment.
“Many of our girls don’t even have words to describe what happened to them when they were four or five and six years old,” CEO and founder of Courage Worldwide Jenny Williamson said. “They’ve been told they have no value. They have been told that no one cares.”
Williamson lauded a recent Nevada law, saying victims can stay in these homes until they’re 21. Before, victims could only stay until 18. She says it allows them to pursue education opportunities, like a high school diploma, while recovering in the home.
To maintain the safety of the victims, we cannot disclose where in the county the house is located.
