(Carson City, NV) — The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has introduced a new “Drone as First Responder” (DFR) program. The three drone packages each consisting of drones and self-contained docking stations located on the sheriff’s office rooftop, are remotely piloted by humans and are capable of autonomous launch. The drones are designed for all-weather operation and are equipped with a suite of advanced features like Thermal sensors which enable them to locate missing hikers. The drones can respond to a variety of incidents including traffic crashes, structure fires , and public works emergencies such as downed trees or flooding. The drones can also capture images of license plates for suspect vehicle identification in criminal investigations
