(Truckee, CA) — Experts say the spot where a snowmobiler died in an avalanche is a little bit safer today, but people should still avoid dangerous parts of the Sierra. Chris Thomason of Bend, Oregon was killed on Monday near Castle Peak, which is north of I-80 across from Boreal Mountain Resort. The Nevada County Sheriff says the 42-year-old was pulled from the snow by other snowmobilers but it was too late. The Sierra Avalanche Center says powerful winds prior to the accident caused some snowdrifts to grow up to 10 feet.
