(Las Vegas, NV) — Major League Baseball is still two years away from moving to Las Vegas, and now there’s a new twist. The federal government has denied trademarks for the names “Las Vegas Athletics” and “Vegas Athletics.” The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said the name “Athletics” is too generic. However, that’s the nickname the club has been using since it started in Philadelphia back in 1901. The team can still ask for an extension to file a new application.
