(Trinity County, CA) – Four people are dead following a head-on crash near the Shasta-Trinity National Forest on Saturday. CHP officials say the two-vehicle crash happened just before 7 p.m. along State Route 299, just west of Big Bar. The initial investigation showed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading west when it crossed into the eastbound lanes while negotiating a curve. That’s when it struck a red Chevy Impala carrying five people. Four of those people were fatally wounded, while the fifth person was air-lifted for major injuries. The driver of the Jeep also suffered serious injuries. Alcohol is considered a factor, but troopers did not confirm that was the main cause.
