(Truckee, CA) — Two survivors are talking about the deadliest avalanche in California history. Anton Auzans and Jim Hamilton were on that backcountry skiing trip where nine people died last month. They tell the New York Times that the group was taking an alternative path back to the highway when the massive avalanche hit. The guides had decided on that path because they believed the avalanche danger was worse in other spots. However, the guides did not tell the clients there was an option to stay in their backcountry huts until it was safe to leave.
