(Reno, NV) — Officials with the City of Reno gave elder residents a chance to get rid of their unwanted and expired documents on Thursday, holding a free shredding event at the Neil Road Recreation Center.
The first event of its kind was a pivotal step in preventing a rise in identity theft or fraud cases, something Senior Engagement Coordinator Izabella Baumann said is a major problem.
Cars were lined up prior to the start time of 11 a.m. Residents had an easy time with the event, driving right up to a shredder truck and handing off their documents. It’s unclear whether they will be burned or recycled.
Baumann said the BBB will host another shredding event next month at the Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa.
