- Reno Aces infielder Jordan Lawlar was named to the PCL All-Star team after a dominant season in Triple-A. Lawlar boasted a .313 average and a .967 OPS through 259 at-bats.
- Nevada Wolf Pack football coach Jeff Choate is reporting good progress coming out of the team’s bye week. After starting the year 1-3, Choate says turnovers and quarterback play are the biggest areas his team needs to improve on if they want to make a statement in conference play. The Pack opens Mountain West play Saturday afternoon against the 4-1 Fresno State Bulldogs.
- The San Francisco Giants are on the search for a new manager. Skipper Bob Melvin has been fired following a disappointing season that saw the Giants finish third in the NL West at 81-and-81. Melvin had his option for the 2026 picked up in July, but the franchise has decided to move on after a shaky finish to the 2025 campaign. San Fran president of baseball operations Buster Posey said that “making a change in leadership was in the best interest of the team.” The three-time Manager of the Year went 161-and-163 in his two seasons leading the squad. The Giants have not made the playoffs since 2021.
- The 49ers may be without starting quarterback Brock Purdy once again after suffered a setback of a toe injury that he originally suffered in Week One. San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said that Purdy would be evaluated more Monday before the team has an idea of the severity of his turf toe injury. The 25-year-old’s status for the team’s Thursday Night Football matchup with the Los Angeles Rams is now seen as being up in the air. Purdy passed for 309 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in San Fran’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
- It’s do-or-die for the Las Vegas Aces as they host the Indiana Fever tonight in a win-or-go-home WNBA semifinals game. Each team has won at home so far this series. The winner will face Phoenix in the WNBA Finals this Friday.
