Here’s what’s trending in Tuesday sports:
Nevada Football
Following a 1-4 start to the season, Coach Jeff Choate is considering a change at quarterback. True freshman Carter Jones could find himself starting this Saturday when the Pack welcomes San Diego State to Mackay Stadium. Jones completed 11-of-15 passes against Fresno State, tallying 121 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. While Choate would not commit to a starter on Monday, he said it’s possible Jones could start with Chubba Purdy and A.J. Bianco serving as backups.
NFL
The Raiders keep losing, so head coach Pete Carroll wants them to be more like the Aces, who keep winning. That appears to be the best spin Carroll can put on the Raiders four-and-one start. The coach points out that the Aces had a rough start to their season and now they’re two games away from winning the WNBA Finals. Both the Aces and the Raiders are owned by Mark Davis. Sports reporter Levi Edwards says Carroll is now realizing that his first season in Las Vegas will not be spectacular from the start.
In Monday Night Football, the Jaguars squeaked by the Chiefs, 31-28.
NHL
The Sharks are preparing to take the ice for their regular season opener. San Jose will host the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night at the SAP Center. Top prospects Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson have made the opening roster. They are expected to make their NHL debuts against the Golden Knights.
NBA
The Warriors and Kings are hitting the hardwood for preseason hoops. Golden State will host the Portland Trail Blazers tomorrow night in San Francisco. The Warriors are 1-and-0 in exhibition play. In other action, Sacramento hosts the Toronto Raptors tomorrow night in their preseason opener.
WNBA
The Aces and Mercury will continue the WNBA Finals Wednesday. Las Vegas leads the series two games to zero after holding serve at home. Jackie Young scored 32 points in a 91-78 win in game two, while A’ja Wilson contributed 28 points and 14 rebounds. Phoenix’s Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally scored 23 and 22 points, respectively. The Aces are trying for their third championship in four years, while the Mercury are looking to win their first since 2014.
