Here’s what’s trending in Tuesday sports:
NCAAF:
Nevada head coach Jeff Choate is sticking with freshman quarterback Carter Jones for Saturday’s matchup with New Mexico. Jones completed 15-of-31 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions in this weekend’s loss to San Diego State, but Choate said he’s proud of the way Jones is adjusting on the fly. Saturday’s game between Nevada and New Mexico will be the first time both teams face off since 2016.
MLB
A shakeup in the baseball world. Padres skipper Mike Shildt is retiring due to health issues. He led the Friars to two straight 90-win seasons since taking over in 2024. Prior to that, he managed the St. Louis Cardinals.
In the ALCS, the Mariners took a 2-0 lead over the Blue Jays with a 10-3 win, and the LA Dodgers clipped the Brewers, 2-1, in their first NLCS game.
NHL
The San Jose Sharks will host Carolina tonight at the SAP Center in search of their first win. The Sharks are 0-0-2 to start the season. Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights head to Calgary to take on the Flames.
