(Reno, NV) – Students and staff at Washoe County School District may have been exposed to whooping cough. Northern Nevada Public Health reported 31 cases of whooping cough in 2025, a number that is on the rise from previous years. Health officials say symptoms that come from this specific exposure, including severe coughing that lasts for an extended period of time and vomiting, are most likely to appear on or before March 4. If a doctor diagnoses your child with whooping cough, keep your child home, avoid contact with infants and those with weakened immune systems, and notify your child’s school.
