From the City of Reno:
RENO, Nev. (Feb. 25, 2026) — The City of Reno has accepted a $120,000 grant from the Reno Rodeo Association to support accessibility improvements at the Idlewild Park Splash Pad, expanding inclusive play opportunities for children and families of all abilities.
The funding will be used to improve, expand and add new features specifically designed to better serve individuals with disabilities. Planned upgrades will enhance usability, safety and access at one of Reno’s most popular summer amenities.
“We’re so thankful for this generous gift from the Reno Rodeo Association to help improve one of our community’s favorite park amenities,” said Ward 2 Councilmember Naomi Duerr. “This donation is a great example of how strong community partnerships can create positive impact across our city.”
The grant is funded through the Reno Rodeo Association’s Special Kids Fund, which is supported by voluntary tips collected during the annual Reno Rodeo. Proceeds from the fund are reinvested in community projects that benefit children and individuals with disabilities across Northern Nevada.
“Reno Rodeo is honored to be able to give back to the community and help with making life better for children with disabilities,” said George Combs, general manager of the Reno Rodeo Association. “This project with the City of Reno to improve the splash pad at Idlewild Park fits our mission.”
Grant funds will be distributed in two installments in 2026 and will be used exclusively for the Idlewild Park Splash Pad accessibility project. Construction is expected to start in September 2026, with improvements completed by spring 2027.
