Desert Bighorn Sheep hunting season started Sunday, and the Nevada Department of Wildlife handed out around 400 tags to hunt the official Nevada State animal.  The number of tags speaks to the repopulation work done for three decades by NDOW. Their number are now on the rise, with so many desert bighorn in Nevada, that we now have more than any other state in the lower 48.  Back in the 80’s NDOW only offered around 50 tags to hunters.
