National Weather Service Warns of a Late Fire Season

According to the National Weather Service last winter brought the most precipitation on record in Reno and Northern California. Now while that record-setting precipitation may be delaying Nevada’s wildfire season a bit, it has also produced an abundance of vegetation that could burn later this summer. That’s according to State and federal land managers at a Tuesday round table with Governor Brian Sandoval. Chris Smallcomb of the National Weather Service says wet grounds across northern Nevada and the Sierra are making trees more likely to fall. Those trees will then dry out, becoming perfect fuel for a wildfire.
