Mayor Hillary Schieve said she wanted more cops on the street, and funds for that in the city budget, and it looks like she’s getting her way. The latest version of the budget calls for a dozen new officers, with six being hired this summer, and six more at the start of 2020. A previous budget proposal from city staff was shot down, because it had funding for only four new officers. The spending plan still awaits final approval.
