Lightning started several fires north of Reno Sunday and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District said the most active was the Cottonwood Fire. The Bureau of Land Management said just before 7 p.m. that the Cottonwood Fire had reached nearly 350 acres. It is about a mile south of Fish Springs Road and roughly half way between the California border and the northwest corner of Pyramid Lake. It’s 70% contained today, no threat to structures, and full containment is expected Thursday.
