Hepatitis A Outbreak in Las Vegas

In Las Vegas there’s an “outbreak” of hepatitis A cases, mostly among the homeless and people who abuse drugs. The Southern Nevada Health District reports from November to June it counted 83 cases of the virus that causes liver damage and can be fatal. Only 58 cases were reported in 2016, 2017 and 2018, combined. More than 80 percent of the patients were homeless and 92 percent use drugs. Hepatitis A is most often transmitted through consumption of water or food contaminated with fecal material.
