Detectors Offered Free For Older Sparks Homes

The Sparks Fire Department is offering Sparks residents, with homes built before 1994, free installation of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors as part of their ProjectSAFE Program. ProjectSAFE (Survive A Fire Emergency) was established in 2007 and provides vital education and information about smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and general home fire safety. Assistant Fire Marshal Chris McCubbins says “Each year, roughly 70 percent of home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or smoke alarms that are defective.” Residents of Sparks with homes built before 1994, are encouraged to call the Fire Prevention Bureau at 353-2266. The next installation dates are September 17 and 19 and October 15 and 17.
