NEVADA APPEALS COURT WORKS AS HOPED — Nevada’s new appeals court, created this year after voter approval, is working as intended. Chief Justice James Hardesty says it’s making a difference for Nevadans. Nearly 500 cases have been resolved, and the backlog of cases is down to about 1500. Justice Hardesty says on Nevada Newsmakers, he expects the case backlog to be down to zero sometime in 2017. Which will allow justices to begin on cases immediately. Hardesty says 90% of criminal cases are currently decided in less than a year, and 77% of civil cases are decided in less than a year, which Hardesty calls, “Great progress.”
