Rate Of Uninsured Children Declining In NV – Nevada saw the steepest decline of any state in the rate of uninsured children from 2013 to 2014, according to a report from Georgetown University. But Nevada still remains in the top five states with the highest uninsured rate at 9.6 percent. Only Alaska, Texas and Arizona are higher. But in 2013, the state had a rate of 14.9 percent, so that represents a 35 percent drop, the largest percentage decrease in the country. Denise Tanata Ashby, executive director for the Children’s Advocacy Alliance attributes part of the large decrease to Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act. Children who remain uninsured are more likely to be school-aged, Hispanic, living in a family with income just over the poverty line, and in rural areas, according to the report.
