PUC Adopts New Solar Rules

The State Public Utilities Commission has adopted a new rate structure for customers with rooftop solar panels. The commission voted unanimously to reduce the amount NV Energy pays customers for the extra energy their solar panels produce, and feed back to the grid, and change the “flat service rate,” for customers with solar panels. The changes would phase in over five years, starting January 1st. Rooftop solar companies strongly oppose the changes, saying it make it hard for them to continue doing business in Nevada. The commission was concerned that the current rate structure shifts costs from solar to non-solar customers.
