Reno judge Frances Doherty has ordered additional brain testing for a 20-year-old woman on life support at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Aden Hailu stopped breathing during exploratory surgery, and she has been in a persistent vegetative state ever since. Doctors at the hospital declared her brain-dead, using criteria from the American Academy of Neurology. In November, the Nevada Supreme Court ruled the hospital could not withdraw life support until the hospital could prove those criteria match state criteria. For now will undergo an “E-E-G” to confirm there is still no brain wave activity.
